5 Common Traits of Successful Agents
In my last post, we talked about why 83% of real estate agents fail within the first five years. In this post, we’re gonna talk about the opposite. The 17% of agents that succeed all have other traits in common. Keep reading to learn about some of these traits so you can apply them to your career!
Hello agents, my name is Evie Brown, your REALTOR® with over eighteen years of experience in the Real Estate industry. I’m hoping to help other agents grow in their real estate knowledge and skillsets by providing tips to help them succeed in their careers. Thank you for being here, and if you’d REALLY like to be here, consider joining me at eXp Realty!
Below we will discuss 5 traits all successful real estate agents have in common!
1. Knowledgeable and Passionate
Author Napoleon Hill once said that desire is “the starting point of all achievement”. The most successful agents are usually the most passionate and competitive. They love what they do and they’re constantly striving to be the best. They’re also usually very self-motivated and driven. If you’re not passionate about real estate, it’s going to be very difficult to succeed in this business.
It can also help to show an interest in things that aren’t exactly real estate, but are related. For example, if you read up on architecture and apply that knowledge to the houses you’re showing off, it could really wow clients. Learning about city planning can help you educate clients on their future neighborhood. Picking up a few interior designing tricks will make things pop when you’re staging a house.
2. Engaging Personality
This one may seem obvious, but it makes a huge difference. Successful real estate agents are confident, energetic, personable. They have a good attitude and a sense of humor. Think about it; if you’re working with someone closely on something as stressful as selling your house, wouldn’t you want to get along well with them? People want to work with someone who is enjoyable to be around. No one wants to buy a house from a grumpy agent!
3. Great Marketing Skills
You could have the best personality in the world, but if you don’t know how to market yourself properly, you’re not going to get very far. A successful agent is a great salesperson, and part of being a great salesperson is knowing how to market yourself and your properties. You may notice a good real estate agent has a strong social media presence. They take the time to meet others in the industry to build a good network. They advertise themselves well enough that you recognize their face before even meeting them.
You need to be able to put yourself and your listings in front of the right people, and you need to know how to sell the properties you’re representing. If you’re not good at marketing, now is the time to start learning. If you need somewhere to start, I mention marketing and other strategies for standing out in this post.
4. Good Time Management Skills
This one is crucial. If you don’t know how to manage your time, you’re going to have a lot of unhappy clients. A good agent is great at time management both in and out of the job. Real estate transactions usually involve a lot of paperwork and many different deadlines. You need to be able to keep track of everything and make sure it’s all done on time.
There are a lot of moving parts to a real estate deal, and if you’re not good at keeping track of it all, things are going to fall through the cracks. If you want to improve your skills in this area, keep an eye out for my next post! I’ll be talking about keeping productive, and will include some tips on time management.
5. Keeps Up to Date
Successful real estate agents are great and keeping the pace with the ever-changing industry. They’re always learning new things and tracking trends. They’re also very knowledgeable on the state of the housing market. There are a lot of moving parts to real estate, and it’s imperative you stay in the know.
These are just a few of the many traits that make up a successful real estate agent. Keeping an eye on what successful agents in your life are doing will help you learn more about what to do for yourself. You can find a lot of inspiration from other agents, and following their example is a great way to improve your own career.
