5 Small Design Tips to Help Brighten Up Your Home!

Whether you’re moving into a new home or getting bored with your living room, there are plenty of small changes you can do to make your space feel like an entirely new environment. Home design doesn’t have to be a complicated thing, and a lot of the principles behind it are things anyone can do. You can change up your home with these simple tricks that will feel new while staying in your budget.

Adding New Smells

Scented candles are a great way to change up the air around the home. For those of us turning on our heaters in the cold winter months for the first time this year after such a hot summer, the dust that built up can leave your home smelling a bit like burning plastic. Lighting up something fresh can really brighten up the place. If you don’t like strong smells, opt for something light and citrusy instead. Alternatively, if you don’t like having to remember to put out the flame, there are plenty of plug in diffusers or wax warmers you can buy. If you’re tired of the Bath & Body Works scents, try something from Etsy!

Throw Pillows

If you’ve had the throw pillows on your couch for a while, it may be time to switch things up and replace them with new ones. Keeping the pillows on your couch fresh ensures that there’s no dust buildup, which can quite easily happen in otherwise unused spaces. Your best bet is to go for something colorful and fun, and there’s plenty of selection at places like IKEA or the At Home Store. This doesn’t necessarily have to be pricey either; you can craft things out of fabric or old clothes you don’t wear anymore as a great way to keep things light as well as create a fun new project.

Giving Life to Your Walls

Adding new wall decorations is another great way to spice up your home. Shop around in thrift stores like The White Dove Thrift Shoppe (local to the Phoenix area, and directly benefits Hospice of the Valley) for some fun art, or get frames for the holiday pictures you just took with your family. Alternatively, mirrors are a simply way to help reflect the light in your space and help to open up smaller rooms.

Fresh Lighting

Changing out lights isn’t something most people think to do when they want their home to look fresh. If you’re tired of the same old bulb or have been stuck with fluorescent lighting, changing them out can change the mood drastically. Switch out those bright white bulbs for something warmer, or add some lamps for a new furniture piece. You can go with LED bulbs which save on electrical costs, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, go with color-changing Smart Bulbs and you can set them to whatever color you’d like! These should be installed on a separate wireless network, so ask a place like RAD Computers on how to do this correctly.

Moving the Furniture

You don’t have to spend a dime to make your home feel new. Something as simple as rearranging your furniture can make a huge difference. Move the chair that’s next to your couch in front of the TV to a window for a nice place to take a break and read. Even something small like moving the coffee table from one side of your room to another can have a huge impact on the way you feel when you’re in it. You can also give your home a mini face lift without much work by moving around objects like vases and lamps.

So there you go, 5 small design tips to help liven up your home! I hope you found it helpful and will be taking at least one or two of my tips. Would love to hear back from you and see pictures of what you can do with your living space! If you’re still stuck on ideas, search for “Room Decor” on Pinterest!
